Amanda Bernice Crump Scott, 103, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, passed away at Chestnut Hill
Hospital on October 27, 2023.

Amanda was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on October 7, 1920, to Mary Ada P. (nee Haynes)
and Robert Jarrod Crump. She was the youngest of thirteen children.  She graduated from South
Hills High School at the age of 16. She then earned a Bachelor of Science from Virginia State
College in 1943 and a Master of Science in Nutrition from Iowa State College in 1945.
During her time in college, Amanda met the love of her life, a young US Navy Sailor named
Russell Herbert Scott, whom she married in 1945. She gave birth to three loving children:
Robert in 1946, Linda in 1948, and Russell, Jr. in 1952.

Amanda, Russell, and their children moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1953. She served as
a teacher for the Philadelphia School District, specializing in Home Economics, from 1955 until
her retirement in 1982.

In retirement, she remained active in the United Methodist Women's Organization at the First
United Methodist Church of Germantown, and focused on nurturing her beloved grandchildren.
Amanda was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Robert; twelve siblings, Sue, James
(Lincoln), Corinne, Dewey (Haynes), Gladys, and seven others; husband, Russell; and three
children, Robert, Linda, and Russell (Jr.).  She is survived by her six grandchildren, Jacqueline,
Paul, Saeed, Russell (III), Julian, and Shakir; three great grandchildren, Jarron, Shamir, and
Shedrick; two great-great grandchildren, Jianni and Joleigh; and a large host of relatives and
friends.

A memorial service for Amanda will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023, starting at 11:00
a.m., at the First United Methodist Church of Germantown, located at 6001 Germantown
Avenue, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 19144.
