Arthur W. Smith, 79, of West Norriton, PA passed away Sunday, September 1, 2024.
He was born on December 20, 1944, the son of the late Charles "Finn" and Bertha Smith.
Arthur was born and raised in the Roxborough neighborhood of Philadelphia, PA. He graduated from Roxborough High School, class of 1962. He spent time living in Fort Worth, TX and Lower Merion Township, PA before settling in West Norriton, PA with is beloved wife of 18 years, Susan (Beiser) Smith.
He spent his career as a structural designer, working for firms such as Raytheon Engineers. He earned a bachelor's degree from Chestnut Hill College as an adult learner in his 50s. In his retirement, he kept busy as a volunteer rebuilding computers for kids in need, as webmaster for his high school alumni association, and with the groundskeeping department of the Elmwood Park Zoo. Most recently, he enjoyed his position with Genuardi Gardens & Greenhouses. As a young man, he played the Jersey Shore as a drummer and maintained lifelong relationships with his band mates and friends from that time. He spent his free time traveling with his loved ones, supporting his children and grandchildren's sports and interests, homebrewing beer, and taking on projects with and for his family including rebuilding his classic Ducati motorcycle with his son. He was a beloved father, grandfather, husband and friend.
Arthur is survived by siblings Kenneth "Bud" (& Betsy) Smith, and Doris Clugston, son J. Zachary (& Glenna) Smith of Richmond, VA, daughter Emily (& Leonardo) Angiulo of Holden, MA, stepdaughter Robin (& Stas) Kolosowsky of Sewell, NJ, and stepson Adam (& Tara) Smith of Limerick, PA. He is also survived by grandchildren, Niccolo and Luca, and step-grandchildren Zachary, Emily, Lily, Abigail, and Aaron; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Charles Smith and sisters Nancy Kerner and Charlotte "Pat" Slook.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at 11 AM at the Heritage Chapel of George Washington Memorial Park. Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park.
A visitation will be held from 9:30 AM at the chapel.
