Obituary

Born Barbara Cleghorn on October 19th, 1932 in Trinidad as the youngest and only girl to a family of 9 boys. She considered herself a tomboy. She loved climbing trees and chasing after her brothers. She was an avid sports fan watching anything from football, soccer, baseball,  and cricket. Barbara also participated in sports where she played cricket, most notably she played for Trinidad against Great Britain. Barbara married Alfred Winston Edwards on July 23, 1954. From this union, her only son Alfred Ciprian Edwards was born. She affectionately nicknamed him "Cip". She loved and adored him so much to the very end.

Barbara Edwards led a remarkable life. In 1970,  with  less than $100 to her name and one suitcase she moved to the United States alone. Working as a live in maid and various other jobs as she worked towards the American dream.  She was later joined in 1972 by her husband and son.

After arriving in the United States, Barbara briefly resided in Brooklyn, New York, before settling in Mt. Airy, Philadelphia. Barbara and Alfred purchased their first home on Sydney Street. Sydney Street held a special place in their hearts, where the entire family eagerly anticipated meals like fried bake, salt fish, rice and peas, and stewed chicken, all infused with Grandma's love.

Barbara Edwards became an United States citizen on December 14th, 2012. She was very proud and determined to accomplish such a feat. In 2017, Barbara moved to Telford, Pennsylvania, where she spent the remainder of her life with her son Alfred and his wife Beatrice. She became the cherished guest and host at numerous family gatherings. Barbara's unwavering dedication to family has left a lasting impression to all those blessed to be around her.

Barbara is survived by her only child Alfred, five grandchildren: Benae, Selina, Sebrina, Winston, and Sean, her three bonus grandchildren: Jamal, Lakisha, and Ashanti, twenty-eight great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter.

Her legacy lives on through the fond memories she created within her family. Her impact and absence is felt and She will be truly missed.
