IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carl B.
Doughty
December 29, 1945 – November 22, 2021
Carl B. Doughty passed away unexpectedly on Monday, November 22, 2021 in Abington Memorial Hospital, Abington, PA. He was 75 years old. Born on December 29, 1945, he was a son of the late Franklin H. and Ruth (Barron) Doughty of Clarks Summit, PA.
Carl graduated from Clarks Summit/Abington High School (now Abington Heights High School) in 1963, Valedictorian of his class. He then attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Massachusetts, and earned an SB and MS degree in Civil Engineering.
Carl began his professional career teaching Mathematics and Science at Abington Heights in Clarks Summit. He then joined the US Army Corps of Engineers in Philadelphia, serving as a Civil Engineer attached to the Department of Data Processing. This led him to move further into the field of Computer Science while completing a MS degree in Engineering Management from Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA. He continued his professional work as Software Engineer for the Sun Oil Company and Primavera Software Company, both of the Greater Philadelphia area. He then returned to his initial love of teaching, teaching Mathematics at Bishop McDevitt Catholic High School in Wyncote, PA. and as an Adjunct Professor of Mathematics at Philadelphia University. He continued to demystify Mathematics for countless students, until his recent retirement, with insight, understanding and humor.
Carl is survived by his most beloved wife of 47 years, Chungna (Yoon) Doughty; an older brother Paul F. (Theresa) Doughty of Clarks Summit, PA; nieces Lauren Doughty of Scranton, PA and Karen (Marc) Loretti of Clarks Summit, PA; nephews Paul Yoon and David Yoon; and many other family and friends. Of special mention is Sarah (HaKyung) Rim.
Those who knew Carl describe him as a good and gentle man, admired for his kindness, modesty and generosity. Many perceived him as a man of few words; others knew and experienced his dry wit and "tongue in cheek" humor.
