IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carl Daniel
Homan, Jr.
March 16, 1943 – June 15, 2021
Carl Daniel Homan, Jr. (Dan) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 in Philadelphia after a brief illness. He was 78 years old, born on March 16, 1943 in Philadelphia to the late Carl Daniel and June Elizabeth (Beyer) Homan.
A longtime resident of Philadelphia and teacher in the School District of Philadelphia, Dan spent his working life shaping young lives as an educator in the industrial arts and mathematics. In retirement, Dan was committed to Christian ministry and met weekly with Calvary Chapel Addictions Ministry to offer spiritual support to those who needed it. Additionally, Dan was an avid reader, as well as a lover of music and nature, and he volunteered for several conservation organizations. He was deeply committed to the causes that were important to him, devoting significant amounts of time and support to each of them. Dan was equally dedicated to his friends and family. One of his greatest joys was his grandchildren, with whom he spent countless hours giving rides on his motorcycle, riding the "El," visiting the Franklin Institute, touring Morris Arboretum, bird watching at Hawk Mountain, and volunteering at Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge, among many other things. Dan never missed a grandchild's birthday, and he made every effort to attend every one of their special events, even if it meant hopping from one event to another to ensure that he was there for all of them. In the words of one of his grandchildren, Dan was a mentor and an inspiration; he was caring, dependable, and kind. He loved his family deeply, and his family deeply loves him. His legacy is that love, as well as his spirit of service.
Dan is survived by his children, Patricia Davila (Ken), Sandra Homan, David Homan, Philip Homan (Jenn); grandchildren Alexis, Spencer, Malana, Angela, Gia, Andrew, Abby, Dominic, Shannon, and Jake; great-grandchildren Dmitri and Allie; siblings Barbara Marino, Carol Graney (Tom), and Thomas James Homan (Charlotte); and many nieces and nephews, and other family and friends. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Wayne L. Homan, sister-in-law, Mary Homan, and brother-in-law, Louis C. Marino.
A funeral service will be held for Dan on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at 11 AM at the Heritage Chapel on the grounds of George Washington Memorial Park, 80 Stenton Ave., Plymouth Meeting, PA 19462. The family will receive guests from 10-11 at the Heritage Chapel. Inurnment will follow immediately after the service.
