Carolyn, 101, of Lititz passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord on February 22, 2024. She was born in Alleghenyville Berks county Pa. to the late Abel and Hannah (Hoshauer) Horning.

She was married for 69 years to John V. Unruh who proceeded her in death in 2016. She was a 1943 graduate of Kutztown State Teachers College ( at the age of 20) . She taught high school English and Latin in the Pittsburgh area, Maytown and Reamstown before meeting her husband at a WWII victory celebration in Reamstown. After getting married in 1946 she lived in Reamstown for a short period before moving back to Alleghenyville in 1949. She returned to the education field in 1961 as the Librarian at the Reading School of Nursing . She retired from there after 25 years of service. As a youth she was an accomplished cello player and played in a four piece ensemble in college. She was also an avid reader.

Carolyn was a member of Calvary Church in Lancaster. In her retirement she enjoyed traveling but above all she loved and enjoyed being with her six grandchildren . She was predeceased by siblings Clyde Horning and Pauline Bowman.

Survivors: sons John H. Unruh and Robert P. Unruh and wife Linda; daughter JoAnn Sheaffer and husband Lee; grandchildren Heather M. , Lauren, and Paul Unruh, Cody and Jessica Kline, and Lindsey Stiger; great grandchildren McKenzie Snyder, and Gracelyn, Wyatt, Luke, Joel and John Caleb (JC) Stiger; and many other loving family and friends.

Services: A family visitation will be held on Saturday April 6 at 10:00 am followed by a memorial service at 11:00 at Alleghenyville United Church of Christ , 1219 Kurtz Mill Rd Mohnton Pa. A light lunch will served after the service.
