Obituary of Charles Gallelli
Charles R. Gallelli, age 92, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2013. Charles was born on April 6, 1921 to Raffaela and Pietro Gallelli in Germantown. He married Rose Crescenzo on March 5, 1950 and they shared 57 wonderful years of marriage before her death in 2007. During WWII, he was a member of the 150th ARMD Sig Co, 10th ARMD DIV. When he returned after the war, he taught himself how to sew and opened his business Gallelli Tailors in Oak Lane. He was a beloved and much respected tailor and drycleaner for over 50 years until his retirement.
Charles was a longtime resident of the Norristown area, and he was an active member of St. Titus Parish in East Norriton. Charles worked hard to maintain a lovely home, and a garden full of wonderful vegetables and flowers. He loved going to Wildwood, watching the Eagels and Phillies, loved animals, collecting stamps and coins, and above all, spending time with and taking care of his family. Charles was known for his kindness, gentleness, generosity, and sense of humor, and ever present smile. He exemplified the very best qualities of the "Greatest Generation."
Charles is survived by his daughter Sharon, son-in-law Robert Marchesani, grandsons Christopher and Daniel, sister Edith Wagner, and beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Rose, his brothers, Anthony and John, and his sisters, Elizabeth Calvanese, Julia Altopiedi, and Katherine Yannacone. His family is grateful for the care provided by the Simpson Meadows family and Compassionate Care Hospice.
