Obituary of Charles Lohmann

.Charles Perkins "Pete" Lohmann Jr., aged 83 died Dec. 19, 2011. He was a resident of Plymouth Meeting. Pete died from injuries incurred during a fall at his home on December 10th.

Pete was born Dec. 19th 1928 in Bryn Mawr, PA. He was the oldest son of Charles P. and Gertrude Lohmann. Pete is survived by his brothers Alfred and Watson Lohmann and sister Anne Mateer.

Pete graduated from Lower Merion High School in 1948 and Washington College (in Chestertown, MD) in 1952. In college, he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and a member of the lacrosse team. He was married in 1978 to Dorothy "Dee Dee" Lohmann. They lived in Flourtown before moving to Plymouth Meeting in 1986.

Pete had three children from a previous marriage, Charles P. Lohmann III (affianced to Barbara Fried), Richard Powell Lohmann (married to Susan) and Catherine Lohmann Ripley. Dee Dee previously had two children, Ward Miller (married to Jennifer) and Kendall Miller Helman (married to Glenn). Pete was immensely proud of his six grandchildren: Peter Lohmann, Holly Lohmann Stello, Julie Lohmann James, Amelia Lohmann, Olivia Lohmann and Katherine Miller.

After leaving the Insurance field, Pete founded Peter Lohmann Advertising. After retiring his business he joined FMI in Philadelphia, where he was presently employed.

An artistic man, Pete was a talented amateur painter, banjoist and ukulele player. He was active with the Boy Scouts for years, and enjoyed such differing hobbies as following Reading Phillies baseball, Dixieland jazz, tennis, fishing, woodworking and refinishing antiques. He always enjoyed a good joke, and loved attending Laurel and Hardy film festivals. He was a member of Toastmasters International and a past president of the Plymouth Meeting Historical Society. He enjoyed visiting the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

A memorial service will be held at 3 PM Friday, December 23rd at St Thomas Episcopal Church, 600 Church Road, Flourtown, PA 19031. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the St Thomas Barn Restoration Fund.
