Obituary

Christopher Branda, Jr. – Philadelphia Lawyer, of Avalon, NJ and Naples Florida, March 21, 1926-September 24, 2018.

Christopher Branda, Jr. passed away peacefully surrounded by his three cherished daughters and his wife on Monday, September 24, 2018 at Cooper Hospital, Camden, NJ.

Chris practiced tax law with the Philadelphia center city law firm of Dechert Price & Rhoads (now called Dechert).  He was a partner from 1951-1991 (except for military service, 1952-53).  He rose to Chairman of the Tax Department, Managing Partner, Chairman of the Finance and Professional Resources Committees, and Policy Committee Member prior to retirement as Of Counsel in 1991.

He was a Professor of Law and a Director of the Graduate Tax Program at Temple University School of Law from 1991-1994, and an Adjunct Professor of Law from 1994-1998, prior to moving to Naples, FL in 1998; however, he retained his love of Avalon, NJ during the summer months each year.

He was born in Chestnut Hill to Frances and Christopher Branda and grew up in Trooper, PA.   He graduated from Norristown High School in 1942 and received his B.S. from Swarthmore College in 1945. Chris completed his J.D. (first in his graduating class) at the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1951, summa cum laude, was a member of the Order of the Coif, and a Research Editor of the Law Review.

Mr. Branda was a competitive tennis and bridge player during his lifetime, loved sailing his 27' "Sea Bee" on the southern New Jersey coast, and relished his daily martini ( or two!).

In addition to his wife, Leslie, he is survived by his daughters, Charlotta Ann Bowie (Walter), Dudley Carol Schipper (Christopher), three grandsons (Oliver Schipper, M.D. (Lindsay), Christopher Schipper, Jr.(Lauren), and George Bowie), two granddaughters (Sigourney and Isabelle Schipper) two great-grandsons (Benjamin and Samuel Schipper), and stepson E. Jon Wagner and stepdaughter, Alexandra B. Wagner.

Although he was not a scholar of classical poetry, to those who knew him, his love of limericks was legion.  He would be pleased to be remembered whenever you recall or recite a line, or two, of a favorite limerick.

Burial will be private in the Bread of Life Cremorial Garden in the George Washington Memorial Park, Plymouth Meeting, PA.  A private remembrance  celebration will be held at the Avalon Yacht Club on Sunday, October 7.  A celebration of life ceremony will be held in Naples, FL at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the University of Pennsylvania Law School or to a selected charitable organization of the donor's choice.
