IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Donna June
Darrah
June 12, 1931 – January 27, 2020
Donna June Darrah passed away on January 27, 2020 at 88 years of age. Donna was born on June 12, 1931 in Ethan, SD to Harry Riggs and Bernice (Hull) Riggs. Along with her beloved late husband William T. Darrah, Donna is preceded in death by her dear brother, Darrell Riggs. She was mother to Kathleen (Darrah) Black (James), Patrick Darrah (Janet) and James Darrah, grandmother to Jessica (Black) Sandberg, Allison (Black) Harris and Christine Black, great grandmother to Liam Barber, Everett and Nathanial Harris and Adeline Sandberg.
Donna grew up on a large farm in Ethan, SD. After high school, she earned a teaching certificate and began teaching in an elementary school in her home town. While spending some time with her aunt in California, Donna met her husband, Bill Darrah. They soon moved back to his birthplace in Philadelphia, where they raised three children. Donna worked in bookkeeping positions much of her working career but her real passion was in all things vintage. She was an excellent seamstress, often making her own children's clothes and later remaking vintage wedding dresses and reworking vintage hats. Donna was an entrepreneur, opening an antique shop and traveling to antique shows to buy and sell. After retiring in Florida, she continued buying and selling antiques; especially vintage clothing, jewelry, and dolls well into her '80's.
Donna cherished her family and friends and was known for her giving nature. She loved giving small gifts to everyone she knew! Donna also enjoyed making costume jewelry and delighted in creating unique pieces for family and friends. Caring for those she didn't know or hadn't yet met, Donna volunteered at Osceola Regional Hospital, and also helped to feed the homeless through outreach at the Methodist Church she attended in Kissimmee, FL.
Donna spent her last twenty five years in Florida, enjoying many family meals and events with her sons who lived nearby. During that time, she also made numerous trips back to Philadelphia to visit her daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren and all of her loving extended family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
