Obituary

Edith Ann Perry, age 81, wife of the late Christopher J. Perry (her high school sweetheart) passed away on April 3, 2022 in Glenside, PA.

Born in the South during segregation on September 19, 1940, she was the daughter of educators; Marion B. Smith and Juanita Calhoun in Little Rock, Arkansas.

As a teenager, Edith traveled the world with her family as her father was in the Army.

She was a graduate of Germantown High School and attended the University of Maryland.

She also received degrees from Villa Di Sumpcion and The Sorbonne in France.

Her marriage to her late husband, Christopher was a true love story. They met when Edith was 14. They were separated by a continent but ended up finding each other when she returned from Europe. They got married and spent the rest of their lives together!

Edith traveled the world and lived in France, Germany, and Austria. While in Europe, she did a modeling shoot for Revlon.

She was fluent in French and German.

Edith was a very successful business woman having worked for the former Trans World Airlines.

She was the founder and owner of Four Seasons Travel, which was in business for 25 years in Center City Philadelphia. She was one of the first African American woman to have an independent Travel Agency in Philadelphia.

She was the recipient of the African American Women entrepreneur of the year award in 1984 - 85.

She personally handled travel for many Hollywood actors and entertainers.

She was a published poet and received many awards for her Poetry. She was a lover of the arts, music and culture.

She was effervescent and had a zest for life and family! She was a true renaissance woman; elegant in style, and presentation yet, very approachable and loving. She loved and adored her many, many friends. She is surely missed already. More than words can ever capture!

Edith leaves to mourn her 4 loving boys; Christopher James Perry V and his wife Nita Perry, Eric Joseph Perry and his partner Nanette Smith, Marc Hampton Perry and his wife Paula Perry, and Matthew Heywood Perry and his wife Michele Perry. She was the loving grandmother of Rochelle Perry, Christopher Perry VI, Zachary Perry, Elizabeth Perry, Emma Perry, Ella Perry, and Maxwell Perry. She has one deceased brother John Marion Smith and one living and loving sister to whom she adored - June Smith. Also survived by her nephew; Steven Schantz and nieces, Stephanie and Shelly Schantz.

Services and interment will be privately held.
