Elaine Jean Flora, age 89, passed away on January 9, 2026.

Elaine was born on November 26, 1936, in North Philadelphia, the youngest of four daughters of Stephen and Pauline (née Bigos) Florkowski. She was raised in North Philadelphia and graduated from Germantown High School, Class of 1954.

Following graduation, Elaine went to work for Shore Bros. Pontiac on Broad Street in North Philadelphia and later the Atlantic Refining Co., better known as ARCO, at their headquarters in Philadelphia, where she worked until she retired.

Elaine moved to Northeast Philadelphia in 1968, along with her mother and two sisters, and resided there for almost 50 years until she moved to Souderton Mennonite Homes, a senior living community in Souderton, Pennsylvania in 2018.

Elaine's life was shaped by her faith in Christ and her love of family. She never married, but was like a second mother to her sister Irene's five children. She was an active member of the Nicetown Baptist Church and later Rhawnhurst Presbyterian Church. She spent a good part of her life caring for her invalid mother and in turn, her two sisters, which eventually took its toll on her physically.

To paraphrase Idgie Threadgoode in Fried Green Tomatoes, "You know that there are angels masquerading as people walking around this planet and Elaine was one of those."

Elaine is preceded in death by her three sisters Irene Frakes, Helen and Eleanor Flora.

Private services will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Kirk & Nice Funeral Home, 80 Stenton Avenue, Plymouth Meeting PA 19462.
