It is with deep sorrow and love that the family of Elsie Mae Hinkle Potoczny, 103, She went home to be with her one and only love, her husband John.
Elsie passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at Breckenridge Retirement Center in Rocky Mount, NC. She was a native of Philadelphia, PA born to the late William and Elizabeth Glaser Hinkle and was the widow of John C. Potoczny. Elsie was a mother to, and survived by, her daughters Elsie Mae and Marie. She was a beloved grandmother to her granddaughter Lisa Marie, (husband George), grandson Russ (wife Becky), and great grandson Gavin.
Elsie was involved with the Girl Scouts of America for many years and was also a Girl Scout Leader. She taught Sunday School for many years, was an active member in her church, and a United Methodist Women member and volunteered with the Salvation Army.
Elsie and her granddaughter shared a very special bond and in addition to their love for each other, they shared a love of letter writing and would correspond with handwritten letters for most of Lisa's life. Each Sunday Elsie would sit and write a letter to her granddaughter until recently when it was difficult for her to hold a pen. Even then she would sign a note card just to be sure to keep this tradition going. Lisa would like for others to carry on this tradition and either friend a senior at their local retirement home or please friend a senior at Breckenridge Retirement Center by sending mail c/o Resident at Breckenridge 2500 Hunter Hill Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the entire staff at Breckenridge Retirement Center for caring for Elsie for over 25 years. Their love and care for her for all those years will be appreciated more than can be put into words.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 25th at 2:00 pm with Pastor David Carey officiating at George Washington Memorial Park, 80 Stenton Ave, Plymouth Meeting PA. Please gather in the cemetery parking lot at 1:45 PM.
