Obituary

Eva Weidner Wilson peacefully joined her husband of nearly 70 years on 7/28/2020 while at home surrounded by family.    She was 93 years old.

Eva grew up in the Ambler / Conshohocken area of Pennsylvania, the second child of five born on 8/12/26.  Having lost her father at an early age,  she learned survival skills to help support the family while graduating from Conshohocken High School.   She was fastidious  cleaner for neighbors,  an excellent chef / baker which later led to positions in the High School cafeteria, churches and assemblies  where her dishes where most enjoyed.   She was also employed as an operator at Bell Telephone in Philadelphia.

As a young woman,  Eva met the love of her life,  sailor Leon Lincoln Wilson on the dancefloor of the Norristown Arts Skating Rink  where he whisked her off her feet during shore leave.   By the end of the leave,  love was in bloom and a pen-pal romance ensued.   Six months later, she travelled alone by bus to the Florida Keys to marry her sweetheart on May 21, 1949.

Eva and her husband travelled cross country during his various deployments where she made life-long friends as she was known for her warm and loving heart in addition to her fastidious housekeeping skills (even when living in a converted chicken coop!), artful cooking and for being a welcoming and supportive neighbor for the very young mothers at the bases.

Family was extremely important to Eva.  When her own five children began to arrive, they moved their way to Ambler, Pennsylvania to be near extended family.  Extended family holidays were celebrated, houses fully decorated and meals planned.  Family was everything.

Eva and Leon's retirement years were spent in Wyalusing, Pennsylvania where again they took up dancing,  this time square dancing.   They travelled, with the camper,  across northern Pennsylvania and New York enjoying the camaraderie of the senior set, learning new dances and, of course sharing those all-important dishes.

Eva is survived by her children Sharon Wilson,  Cheryl Carocci,  Robert Wilson and Brian Wilson (Deborah) , her eight grandchildren,   Jess (Cassie) Crane, Bryan Crane (Genevieve),  Kai Hill,   Cayenne and Carla Carocci,  Kenneth, Timothy and Jonathan Wilson and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

While Eva had five children of her own,  during her 93 years she has accumulated many pseudo 'adopted' children, grand-children and great grandchildren who gravitated to her warmth and compassion.    They,  like her own children,  were remembered throughout the year with her calls, cards and notes.

She is pre-deceased by her husband Leon L. Wilson,  infant daughter Nancy,  mother Eva Weidner, father Sherman Weidner, brother Sherman Weidner and sister Doris Wack.

Services will be private due to virus restrictions.   It will be held at the Heritage Chapel on Monday, August 3, 2020 at 12:00 p.m.   In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to a charity of the donor's choice in Eva's name.
