Obituary of Evelyn Pappanastasiou
Evelyn G. Pappanastasiou answered the Lord''s call on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 with her family by her side after a short illness. She was 93 years young. Born October 31, 1921 in Bridgeport, PA she was the first child born to the late James and Catherine (Mistigolou) Demetris and the beloved and cherished wife of the late Gregory B. Pappanastasiou with whom she shared 49 years of marriage. Evelyn was a member of the Drama Club at Bridgeport High School, Class of 1939 and attended Strayer Business College. She worked as bookkeeper, raised a family of five children and returned to work for Twin Town Concrete, Charles Santangelo & Sons and retired from REIT Fuel Oil Company in 1985. She was a founding resident of Shannondell at Valley Forge and enjoyed entertaining family, friends and residents as an intimately engaged member of the Performing Arts Studio and the Belly Dancing Club. She was also active in the writing, painting and ceramic studios. She loved to travel and most recently enjoyed a trip to Umbria, Italy with friends from her Shannondell art class. She was a faithful Steward and a member of the Senior Parea and the Philoptochos of St. Sophia''s Greek Orthodox Church. Evelyn is survived by a sister Despo Morkides and was devoted to her children Stephanie Garay and her husband Ronald, Anastasios (Tom) and his wife Christine, Stephen and his wife Patricia, Vickie Casey Fair and her husband John Fair, Lea Lindsey and her husband Michael. Also survived by twelve grandchildren Ronald, James, Jason, Lisa, Thomas, Gregory, Kristin, Bryan, Timothy, Erin, Jessica, Victoria, fourteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers Anthony and Leo Demetris.
Relatives and friends are invited to Evelyn''s Life Celebration on Saturday, January 31, 2015 from 9:30 - 10:45 AM followed by a funeral service at 11:00 A.M at St. Sophia''s Greek Orthodox Church, 900 S. Trooper Rd. Jeffersonville, PA 19403. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Evelyn''s name may be made to St. Sophia''s Greek Orthodox Church (Building Fund) at the above address.
