Evelyn O. Williams passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, June 12, 2021, after a long fight against her lung cancer.  She was 84 years old, born on May 12, 1937, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late George Henry Owens and Elizabeth (Coates) Owens and was one of their thirteen children.

Her nickname was Eve and she loved being, in the midst, of people.  She was a master cook of the Soul Foods that left you always wanting more. Her favorite singer was Al Green and she loved Elvis Presley.  Her favorite color was red.  She was fond of going to the Casino.  She cherished greeting cards and managed to save a massive number of them.  She was very skilled at household painting and household fix up tasks.  Atlantic City was one of her traveled destinations and the place where her father was born.  She had a close and loving relationship with her mother, who was born in Virginia.

She attended Fitzsimons Junior High School and graduated from Dobbins Vocational High School Class of 1955.

She used to say that loving eyes cannot see.

A lifelong resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and after holding various types of jobs, she retired from the United States Postal Service.  She was an outstanding licensed Hairdresser and an excellent licensed Barber.  When not working she enjoyed crocheting all types of things and reading book after book. When younger, she was a skilled dancer on roller skates.  She could tailor make clothes to perfection.

Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Valerie Jane Owens, her long-standing friend Jane Harrison, and the closet to the son she always wanted, Robert Nickens, Sr.

She was estranged from her other family members.

Evelyn touched a lot of lives through the kindness of giving not only of herself, but also giving gifts in immeasurable ways throughout her lifetime to her family, friends, and strangers.
