Obituary

Henry "Hank" Lucius Clements was the son of the late Henry and Daisy (White) Clements.  He was 97.  He was born at his family's home in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on September 14, 1922.  Henry was also known as Hank by his friends and Plunk by members of his family.  Hank was the oldest of Henry and Daisy's three children:  Vivian, his late sister and Vincent "Benny", his late brother.

He was educated through the Philadelphia Public School system and received a diploma in the Industrial curriculum specializing in automobile repair.  After graduating from High School in June of 1940, he worked at the Philadelphia Navy Yard helping to prepare military ships for deployment.  During World War II, Hank served in the Army Air Force and while serving, he attended flight training at Tuskegee, Alabama and served in the Signal Corp in Okinawa, Japan.

Upon returning home in 1946, Hank married Thelma Juanita Williams, and they enjoyed a wonderful, life-long romance that lasted an incredible 74 years until his passing.

Hank returned to the Philadelphia Navy Yard preparing ships for storage and later worked at the Philadelphia Quartermaster Depot.  During this time, he attended Temple University.  Hank worked in the electronics field at RCA in Camden, New Jersey prior to working at General Electric (GE), where he spent the remainder of his career, becoming a Radiation Specialist in the Aerospace Division.  This position involved a lot of travel during the Cold War and included serving as a member of an aircrew on a U.S. Air Force KC-135 aircraft.

In his youth, Hank was a member of a social club called the Barracudas and was later a member of the Optimist Club of Montgomery County.  He volunteered his time with the Youth Study Center teaching classes in electronics, and was a member of the GE bowling team.  In addition, he also had a part time TV repair business.  A large part of his life was spent as a member of Christ Church and Saint Michael's in Philadelphia.

While his family will mourn his departure from this world, they will celebrate the gift of his many years of life and the time they were able to share and enjoy his presence.  Those who he leaves behind with amazing memories include his loving wife of 74 years, Thelma, daughter Alicia Simmons (Victor), son Michael (Christine); four grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
