Obituary of Henry Rihm

Henry Michael Rihm

Henry Rihm of Huntingdon Valley, PA, departed this life peacefully, surrounded by his family, on February 23, 2014. Henry was born May 18, 1929 in Pennsylvania to Emma (ne Muhler) and Heinrich Rihm. He was raised in Whitemarsh Township where he learned to both work hard and play hard, and developed his lifelong skill and passion for fixing and building. From designing and building furniture to repairing and rebuilding cars, it seems there is nothing he couldn't do, and do well. Henry was known to some as Hank, and even Herc, short for Hercules, because he was so strong and accomplished!

Henry married Florence (ne Safronsky) in 1951, and was then drafted by the US Army during the Korean conflict and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands. Following his service he build a successful career in automotive repair, owning and managing service stations and garages where he worked at everything from pumping gas to rebuilding transmissions. Even after he retired, Hank maintained his positive outlook and never let anything slow him down, not even cancer. He kept envisioning and undertaking new projects and loved to share his ideas with anyone who would listen. Hank also enjoyed telling stories about experiences he had throughout his rich life, and his family is sustained with Brother, Herc, Dad, Uncle Hank and Pop Pop stories of their own.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Florence Rihm, children Melissa (and Skip) Thibault, Alan (and Jeanne) Rihm, and grandchildren Gloria (and Edward) Pope, Daniel (and Jessica) Thibault, Sarah Thibault, Michael Rihm and Nathan Rihm, and his soon-to-be great-grandson Baby Pope. He is also survived by his sister Ingaborg Harwick and her family, who were all very dear to him.

A celebration of Henry's life will be held on March 8, 2014 at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 321 Witmer Rd, Horsham, PA 19044 with a gathering at 10 am and service at 11 am, followed by interment at George Washington Memorial Park, Whitemarsh, PA.
