Obituary

James David Woodside passed on Thursday, March 30. Born June 17th, 1922, in Philadelphia, PA, Mr. Woodside attended Olney High School and then Temple University, where he was a member of the football team. He served his country honorably as a Captain in the Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theater and again in the Korean War. James committed his career to teaching and coaching in the Philadelphia School District at South Philadelphia, Olney, Edison, and Roxborough High Schools. He served as Department Chairman for the Physical Education department at Olney High School, and as Football Commissioner for the Philadelphia Public League from 1968-1982. An Eagle Scout, Mr. Woodside spent much of his leisure time as a scoutmaster and camp counselor at Resica, Hart, and Delmont Scout Reservations. In addition, he volunteered at the First Presbyterian Church in Springfield as a Sunday School teacher and President of the Board of Trustees. After retiring from the Philadelphia School District in 1982, Mr. Woodside and his wife Jean spent their time in Vero Beach Florida and Ocean City New Jersey, where he worked part time at the Ocean City Yacht Club. James is predeceased by his wife Jean and his sister Catherine Hann (Ervin), and is survived by his son James D. Woodside Jr. (Ellen McCrane), daughter Alexandra Finley (Robert), daughter Bonnie Brady (Edward), 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate his life on Saturday, April 8th, at the Heritage Chapel at George Washington Memorial Park, 80 Stenton Avenue, Plymouth Meeting, PA. 10:00 visitation, 10:30 service, followed by private interment.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in James'' name may be made to The Boy Scouts of America, Cradle of Liberty Council,1485 Valley Forge Rd., Wayne PA 19087.
