Jennifer Katharine Miedwig, 21, cherished daughter of Richard A. and Linda J. (Overheim) Miedwig and beloved sister of Elise N. Miedwig, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on March 4, 2016. Jennifer, always known as Jenny, was born in Philadelphia on October 24, 1994 and was raised in Wyndmoor, PA. She lived and worked in West Chester, PA.
Jenny graduated with highest honors with a Bachelor of Arts in English from West Chester University in December 2015. She was inducted into Sigma Tau Delta, the English honor society. Jenny worked as a copy editor for the weekly student newspaper (The Quad) and as an intern at Chester County Lines magazine. In summer 2015, she studied at the Universidad de Salamanca in Spain, relishing travel across the country and experiencing the Spanish culture and nightlife. Also that year, she was published in the English Club's annual literary magazine, Literati. Jenny looked forward to a career in editing and publishing.
A graduate of Springfield Township High School, Jenny excelled in academics, worked on the morning student newscast team, traveled to Costa Rica with the Spanish Club, and created a video yearbook for her graduating class of 2012. On the STHS track and field team, she won medals in the triple jump and javelin at the district track meet in 2012. Through the Springfield Township Soccer Club, she played with the Springfield Speed for eight years.
Underlying these intellectual and athletic accomplishments, Jenny''s irresistible smile and genuine friendliness drew in a wide circle of friends who valued her cheerful and supportive nature. Jenny easily made new friends in every environment, but she also treasured (and was treasured by) longtime close friends who stayed central in her life even as they moved to different cities.
As a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Springfield, Jenny served on the Pastor Nominating Committee and also formed close friendships through her active participation in the Youth Group. Christmas Eve and the Fourth of July were celebrated with her extended "church family"; their fiercely competitive Monopoly nights continued throughout their college years when they were home with their families.
Jenny enthusiastically anticipated the family''s biannual trips to Hilton Head Island with her maternal grandmother Joyce S. Overheim of Edinboro, PA, her uncle and aunt Mark and Nancy Overheim of Atlanta, GA, and her cousins Dan and Steven Overheim. She equally enjoyed spending holidays with her paternal grandfather Robert A. Miedwig of Lafayette Hill, PA, her aunt and uncle Susan (Miedwig) and Bill Denchak, and her cousins, Julie, Will and Stephanie Denchak.
Jenny loved music, and attending live concerts was one of her favorite activities. Her ticket diary has more than fifty entries, including a front row seat to see Coldplay, a trip with her father to see U2 at Madison Square Garden, and a recent Twenty One Pilots show.
Jenny''s bright eyes, beautiful smile, lively personality, and intuitive sense of humor will be sadly missed by her family and friends. But her boundless spirit will never be forgotten, and Jenny will always dwell in our hearts.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Jenny's Memorial Service on Saturday March 12, 2016 at 11 AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Springfield, 1710 Bethlehem Pike, Flourtown, PA 19031. A Memorial Visitation will be held Friday evening, March 11, 2016 from 6 PM - 8 PM and on Saturday from 9:30 AM at the church. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the church or to phillyspells.org would be appreciated by her family.
Arrangements under the direction of the Kirk & Nice Funeral Home, Inc., Plymouth Meeting.
