Born in Tarentum, Pa,. Spent her youth in Ogden Dunes, Indiana with her parents Charles W Nicholes and Flora B. Nicholes. Subsequently resided in Jenkintown PA, Jackson WY, and Lafayette Hill PA
Survived by husband David Evans Stokes, sons Colin Nicholas Stokes, Robert Woodruff Stokes, Jonathan Wistar Stokes, and daughter Pamela Bechman Stokes Elliott. Also 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Married to her loving husband for 67 years.
Among her many interests, Joanne enjoyed skiing, tennis, and golf. She was an active member of the Philadelphia Garden Club.
A Quaker service will be held 11AM on November 7th 2015 at Germantown Friends Meeting House, 31 W. Coulter St., Phila. PA. All friends and family are welcome to attend.
