Obituary of John Lee
Dr. John Ik-Mo Lee, of East Norriton, Pa., went to his heavenly sleep from natural causes on July 22,2013, and awaits the glorious return of our Lord, Jesus Christ. John was 83 years of age. John's life began on Dec 12, 1929 in the city of Hwang-He Do, which is in modern day N. Korea. He was the second oldest son of six children. Both his parents from N. Korea are deceased. John spoke and taught Russian at a N. Korean high school prior to the war. John was rescued by American soldiers during the Korean War, and taken to S. Korea. He obtained his undergraduate degree in English at a Weh-Gu-Uh University in S. Korea. While going to college, he worked at the British Embassy in S. Korea where he taught Korean to the embassy staff. In 1960 John married his current wife of 53 years, Sharon Choon-Ai Lee. John and Sharon have four children, two sons and two daughters. In 1964 John was offered a Fulbright Scholarship to Georgetown University in Washington DC, where he earned his PhD in Linguistics in 1968. John was fluent in at least five different languages. In 1970 John was offered an opportunity to return to S. Korea where he established the first modern English course laboratory at Korean Union College (now Sam-Yuk University). His legacy is still in operation there today. John's passion and direction in life was first engrained with his relationship with the Lord, his family, and his teaching. John is survived by his wife Sharon, his oldest son Dennis of North Carolina / married to Beverly; daughter Susan of Rhode Island; son David of Michigan / married to Christy; and daughter Dr. Rose Lee of Delaware / engaged to be married to Rich Feldmann. John has been blessed with seven grandchildren, Gage Powell, Nathan Dorn, Sun-Hi Lee, Grace Powell, Mia Lee, Jack Powell, and Audrey Dorn. John's smile and love for others was contagious. John's love for God was deepened after joining the Seventh Day Adventist Church, and re-commitment in 2002. His wish was to see his wife and children on that great resurrection day, and longs to have all his family and friends as neighbors in heaven.
The memorial service with be held at 7 PM Wednesday July 24, 2013 at Kirk & Nice Inc, Plymouth Meeting, Pa.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday July 25rd, at 10 AM, at the adjacent George Washington Memorial Park in Plymouth Meeting, Pa.
