Obituary of John Petersen, Jr.

John William Petersen, Jr., 72, of 4 Militia Way, Fort Washington, PA, died Sunday, November 1, 2015. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Anna (Mutch) Petersen, his children, Timothy J. Petersen of Fort Washington, PA, Alexander J. Petersen of Trappe, PA, and Victoria (Mutch) Vojnovich of Raleigh, NC. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren who were a source of great pride and joy: Sarah Ashleigh Vojnovich (21), Grace Katherine Vojnovich (16), Evan Theodore Vojnovich (16), Samantha Elizabeth Petersen (8) and Aidan Michael Petersen (5), as well as his brother, Donald C. Petersen. John was preceded in death by his parents, John William Petersen, Sr. and Marjorie (Canham) Petersen.

He grew up in Germantown, PA and loved all sports, especially playing football and baseball. Mr. Petersen graduated from Germantown High School, class of 1960 and entered the United States Navy where he was educated in electricity, which became his career passion. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, he worked as an electrician, and eventually started and owned an electrical contracting business. He was especially proud to be in business with his son, Timothy. John was a respected businessman and was President of the Independent Electrical Contractors Association in the Philadelphia Area for many years.

Mr. Petersen was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Springfield, located in Flourtown, PA, where he served as the president of the Property and Insurance committee. He sang in the choir, where his beautiful baritone voice was often recognized by visitors and church members. He especially loved singing for special services such as cantatas and the men''s chorus.

John''s hobbies centered on his family and extended family. Specific moments of pride included attending the high school and college graduations of his children and grandchildren, watching his son, Alex play football for Dickinson College, watching his grandchildren perform on stage, and attending his grandchildren''s sporting activities. Both Tim and Alex achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, and John supported Scouting events and activities in the area. He was also an avid fan of all sports, especially the Philadelphia major sports teams, Phillies, Eagles, Flyers, and Sixers.

Mr. Petersen will be missed by a wide circle of friends and business colleagues.

A service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held Saturday, November 14, 2015, 11:00 am, at First Presbyterian Church of Springfield, corner of E. Mill Road and Bethlehem Pike, Flourtown, PA. A reception will be held following the service in the church''s Taylor Hall.
