Age 85, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2018. Born in Orange, NJ on December 24, 1932, to Bjorn Bjornson of Iceland and Gladys Ochs of Tennessee. Jon lived in New York City and attended Sanford School in Hockessin, DE, where he excelled in sports, especially lacrosse, which he played while attending Syracuse University. Jon graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Syracuse Medical School in 1958 and was a member of Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity. Jon married Judith Simpson of Syracuse in June 1, 1958. Jon briefly lived in Madison, WI,  where he was a director at the Community Health Center and taught at the University of Wisconsin. Jon and Judy moved to Philadelphia in 1968, where the family has continued to reside. Jon served in the US Army Medical Corps for seven years with one year of service in Vietnam as a flight medic, surgeon and psychiatrist. Forever changed by his experience in Vietnam, Jon worked tirelessly for the remainder of his life to counsel war veterans and led many anti-war rallies. Jon taught at Jefferson Medical College from 1968 to 1986. Along with a private practice in Center City, Jon served as director of the psychiatric units at Einstein Hospital and Eugenia Hospital for many years.

Jon is survived by his wife of 60 years, Judy (Simpson) and son, Jon, daughter-in-law Carolyn (Doyle) and grandchildren Maya, Jon Anders and Sonja. Jon is predeceased by daughters, Noelle and Amy.

A private, non-military service will take place at Kirk & Nice Funeral Home at 80 Stenton Avenue, Plymouth Meeting, PA 19462 on Friday, August 3 at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vietnam Veterans Against the War at VVAW.org .
