He was born on January 27, 1936, in Chungcheongbuk Province, Korea. He immigrated to the United States in 1977 after the Korean War. Jong and his wife supported his entire family including his parents and siblings after the war for 15 years. Jong was a dedicated and selfless individual who pursued the American dream, leaving behind his country and his career as a pharmacist in Seoul, Korea to seek better opportunities for his wife and children. All of his extended family except one sister immigrated to the United States.
In the United States, Jong became a successful self-employed business owner, starting with multiple businesses and eventually establishing Triumph Cleaners in Drexel Hill, PA, where he worked alongside his wife, who was a former chemistry teacher turned tailor. Together, they dedicated 30 years to their business, serving the local community. He raised his family and resided in Wayne, PA for over 20 years.
Jong was a man of faith and found solace in his church community. He was a member, deacon, and elder of Emmanuel Church in Philadelphia for over 30 years. His involvement in the church provided him with a network of friends and family, particularly as a first-generation Korean immigrant. He remembered his time and service with this special community with much pride and joy.
Those who knew Jong described him as kind, compassionate, diligent, loyal, responsible, trustworthy, and faithful to the Lord and his family. He cherished spending time with his loved ones and made it a priority to create lasting memories. In his retirement, he dedicated his time to visiting nursing homes, offering encouragement to the sick and elderly, and happily assisted raising his grandchildren.
Jong received his higher education at Seoul National University, College of Pharmacy, where he honed his skills as a pharmacist before embarking on his entrepreneurial journey in the United States.
Friends, family, and community members are invited to pay their respects and share their memories of this remarkable man.
Jong's legacy will live on through the lives he touched and the values he instilled in his loved ones. He will be dearly missed but forever remembered for his unwavering faith, dedication, and love for his family and community.
