Joe passed away peacefully on August 10, 2026, he was 85 years old.

Joe was born in Philadelphia, PA, on June 6, 1941, to Philomena and Vito Benvenuto. He was the youngest of four children.

Joe grew up in Chestnut Hill on Germantown Avenue and eventually moved to Mount Airy, where he settled on Nippon Street in 1974. He called Nippon Street home for 52 years.

Joe attended Northeast Catholic High School, and after graduation, he proudly joined the United States Navy. He served aboard the destroyer USS Perry as a sonar operator during the Bay of Pigs.

When he left the navy Joe worked for a subcontractor doing work for NASA on the backpacks used for Apollo 17. A few years later, Joe began working with his brother, Victor, who taught him the art of piano tuning. This became his lifelong career, and Joe went on to become everyone’s favorite piano tuner. He continued doing what he loved until the age of 82.

Joe is survived by his loving girlfriend, Christine Dearnaley; his children, Diane Benvenuto and Stephen Benvenuto; daughter-in-law, Haley Benvenuto; grandson, Vaughn Benvenuto; and stepchildren, John Dearnaley, Lisa Roman, and Stephen Dearnaley. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, cousins, and friends.

Joe was an avid bowler and could be found every Tuesday night at Facenda Whitaker. He also loved to host poker games on Thursday night with the guys. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Master Piano Technicians , and Rose Valley Folk. He was a beloved participant in the Rose Valley Variety Show.

Joe always had a smile on his face, was the kind of person who was there whenever you needed him, and he left a lasting impression wherever he went. His warmth, humor & kindness, will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
