IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kathleen Anderson
Shaffer Parry
April 22, 1918 – July 31, 2023
Kathleen Anderson Shaffer Parry died on July 31 at Foulkeways Retirement Community at the age of 105. A lifelong Philadelphian, she loved this area and enjoyed many friendships throughout her lifetime.
Kathleen loved her family. She is survived by her only son, Steven A. Shaffer; his wife, Susan T. Shaffer; and her granddaughter, Alexandra S. Meehan (John). Kathie is predeceased by her first husband, Frank W. Shaffer; by her second husband, H. Frazer Parry; by her sister, Eleanor A. Fritsch; and by Eleanor's husband, Charles T. Fritsch. She will also be missed by her stepdaughter, Martha P. Oscarson; Eleanor's two children, C. Theodore Fritsch, Jr. and Susan F. Hunter, along with their children and grandchildren.
After attending Germantown High School, Kathleen later graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, with a degree in Education. Particularly interested in literature and history, she went on to teach at both Germantown Friends and at Penn Charter, which were some of her happiest and most meaningful experiences professionally. Later she spent time substitute teaching and volunteering at church and at historic homes in Philadelphia.
Kathleen married Frank W. Shaffer in 1942, after he graduated from Princeton and then Penn Medical School. Years after Frank died in 1982, she married Frazer Parry in 1988 and enjoyed happy years together until his death in October 2013. Kathie was a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother, a friend to many, and a generous soul. Her faith in the Lord was always strong and steady.
Kathie was active and energetic. Aside from being an enthusiastic skier and tennis player, she was a big fan of the Eagles, the Phillies, and other local college and professional teams. She spent considerable time in Vermont and at the New Jersey Shore and traveled extensively around the USA and Europe. Kathleen was a member of the Church of the Messiah for many years and the Philadelphian Cricket club. Outgoing and thoughtful, Kathleen was a warm, caring, loyal friend.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
