Kenneth R. Chadwick
Born August 15, 1945 in Philadelphia, PA, died after battling liver and bone cancer on August 11, 2014.
Ken was Associate Vice President for Real Estate and Leasing for Temple University Health System.
Ken was a graduate of Father Judge High School in 1963 and received his bachelor''s degree from Pennsylvania State University.
After graduation, Ken worked for Bethlehem Steel in Baltimore. He moved back to Philadelphia and entered the Sears Roebuck management training program. He held senior management positions at various Sears stores including Chester, St. David''s and Upper Darby throughout the 1970''s. In 1984 he left retail and began work in commercial real estate with Coldwell Banker. He would remain in real estate through the rest of his career.
Ken later became a partner in Source Realty Group and then Director of Marketing the Arsenal Business Center, the former Frankford Arsenal located in the Bridesburg section of Philadelphia. A highlight of Ken''s tenure was converting warehouse space into soundstages for the films "Philadelphia" and "Twelve Monkeys."
Ken spent the seventeen years providing real estate services in the healthcare industry, first for the Albert Einstein Health Network and for the past nine years at Temple. He oversaw the leasing of space for physicians as well as sales, acquisitions and management of properties for TUHS. He supported raising funds for both hospitals through annual golf outings. He also served on the advisory board for the Salvation Army Kroc Center. He loved his work, especially his years at Temple, and the many, many friendships he made. Ken had a way of making anyone feel at ease and welcome. He possessed a quick wit and a wry sense of humor.
Ken was a loving husband to his wife Gretchen for 37 years. He was an encouraging and supportive father to his sons Ken Jr and Brian, from a previous marriage, and to Gretchen''s sons M. Ray, Chris and Geoff Branscome. Ken spent nearly all of his spare time enjoying five son''s athletic exploits in soccer, swimming, baseball, football, rugby, track and crew. He was a fixture at every game throughout their high school and college careers. His voice was recognizable from any sideline and he always cheered for every player on his son''s teams. As a grandfather to seven girls and two boys, "Pop" continued to be visible and vocal at many youth soccer and ice hockey games.
Ken was die hard Philadelphia sports fan. He was thrilled to see the Phillies win two World Series in his lifetime. He loved Big Five basketball and anytime the Sixers beat the Celtics. He fondly remembered watching the Eagles at Franklin Field and remained a Nittany Lions football fan for life. He enjoyed the arts and was a supporter of the Walnut Street Theater. He reveled in playing golf with his friends and traveling with Gretchen, especially trips to Ocean City. He was a gracious host to all and savored any chance he had to also see his brothers, sister, nieces, nephews and grandkids.
The family will receive visitors at Kirk and Nice Funeral Home, 80 Stenton Avenue, Plymouth Meeting, Friday August 15 from 6-8 pm, and again on Saturday August 16 from 10-11am. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM at the same location.
