Obituary of Kenneth Miller

Kenneth E. Miller

A young man of many talents Kenneth was a classically trained pianist, who often played the pipe organ in church and always enjoyed playing the piano. An avid reader, he loved the written word, often writing letters to his parents from both school and the war. The Miller''s as a family were a creative sort. Grandfather Caleb Miller was a scribe in the Navy and the family maintains many documents that exhibit his calligraphy skill. Kenneth passed his photography skills on to his daughter Shelley and painting skills to his daughter Karla.

A man of great intelligence Kenneth graduated from high school at the age of 16 and quickly completed his undergraduate degree at Wilberforce University in Ohio. As an undergrad, he was both a distinguished and active member if the XI Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, initiated in 1941. Kenneth went on to obtain a Master''s degree from University of Michigan and was a member of Sigma Delta Chi Professional Journalistic Fraternity initiated January 1950.

Prior to beginning his graduate studies, Kenneth enlisted in the Army and honorably served his country as a Staff Sargent in the Rifle infantry during WWII. His active duty leadership included storming the beaches in the famous battle of Normandy. Kenneth started his professional career with the federal government in Philadelphia where he met and married the love of his life, Charlotte Elmore.

A dedicated husband and father Kenneth lived in Philadelphia until 2000 later living with his daughter in Maryland until he died peacefully on January 5, 2015.

Kenneth is survived by his two daughters, Shelley and Karla and 3 grandchildren Karley, Justin and Jordyn.
