Obituary

Kwang Sun Im, born October 25, 1948 in Seoul, South Korea, was called home to be with his Heavenly Father on June 20, 2026, surrounded by his family in Norristown, PA.

Kwang immigrated from South Korea to Philadelphia in 1975 to reunite with his older brother and mother, carrying with him the hope of building a better life, the American Dream. That dream took shape beautifully when he met the love of his life in Philadelphia, and the two were married on March 9, 1979. His proudest moment came when he and his wife purchased their first home in Broomall, where they would welcome their three children.

He was a loving husband, proud father, and a doting grandfather. He often said that the love for his family gave him better pain relief than anything his doctors could provide.

Anyone who knew Kwang knew that rain or shine, you could find him on the golf course. He shared his love of the game with his wife and children, and golf became a cornerstone of their family life and vacations. Golfing alongside the ocean was his favorite place to be, and if his family was there with him, it was a perfect day.

Kwang was a devout Christian and a lover of music, and these two devotions found a natural home when he joined the choir as a tenor at the First Korean United Church of Philadelphia. He practiced with dedication throughout the week, and the house was always filled with his singing. During his difficult battle with cancer, and even when he lost his ability to sing hymnals, his faith in God only grew stronger and his trust in the Lord proved unshakeable.

Kwang is survived by his beloved wife, Haeok Im; his three children, Jaisohn (Yeri), Albert, and Laura (Justin); his cherished grandchildren, Char, Christopher, Brooke, Campbell, and Finn; and his sister, Janet Kil Sun Han. He was loved by so many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Kwang's funeral service in the Heritage Chapel at George Washington Memorial Park on Thursday, June 25, 2026 at 10 AM.

Kwang will be laid to rest at George Washington Memorial Park following services.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor their father's memory through a memorial donation to the Kensington Project. Checks can be made out to KUCP with a memo “Kensington - Im” and mailed to 1200 W Cheltenham Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19126.
