Obituary of Leonard Ebert
EBERT, Leonard T., age 93, on March 25, 2014, of Blue Bell, PA formerly of Englewood, FL and Moorestown, NJ. Beloved husband of Janet Coffin Hogue. Survived by son Todd A. and wife Regan, Frisco, TX, stepdaughter Susan E. Smith of Teaneck, NJ and Patricia G. Hogue, Wyndmoor, PA, stepson Dr. James D. Hogue, Lake Lanier, GA and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Shirley Pfeil and daughter Cynthia A. Ebert. He was a World War II veteran who served in the US Army in the China Burma India Theatre. He spent his entire career at PSFS in Philadelphia, starting as a clerk and advancing through major operating departments. He was elected President in 1979. He graduated with honors from Rutgers University School of Banking and his thesis was published. He also attended the Management Development Program at Dartmouth College and received an honorary Doctor of Law degree from the Medical College of PA and he served on the Medical College Board in various positions for 27 years. He was very active in the National Association of Mutual Savings Banks, the Philadelphia Chapter of the American Cancer Society, it's Board and Committees, the United Way, Hospital Survey Committee, the Financial Executive's Institute, American Bankers Assoc. Bank Officers Club, PA Tax Commission, Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce. After retiring from PSFS, he served as President of Meritor Savings Bank in Arlington, VA 1985-1986. He also served on the board of Spring Garden College. Len had a love of the sea and spent many years cruising the Chesapeake Bay and was a member of the Georgetown Yacht Club. He was active in the Coast Guard Auxiliary and served two terms at flotillo commander. He was also an avid golfer and was a member of the Riverton Country Club in NJ and Boca Royal in Englewood, FL.A memorial service will be held at Normandy Farms Estates on April 12th at 11 am.
