IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marianne E.
(Wagner) Ban
May 5, 1938 – May 19, 2022
Marianne Elizabeth Ban, 84, unexpectedly died Thursday evening May 19, 2022, in Feasterville-Trevose, PA. Marianne was born May 5, 1938 in Ebikon, Lucerne, Switzerland to Maria and Max Wagner. As a child she was always up to facing new challenges or adventures, the variety of jobs and activities she participated in during her life are a clear reflection of this. After completing school she worked as a nanny/housekeeper in France, then as a hospital nursing assistant, and eventually worked at a restaurant while considering a formal apprenticeship in that field.
In 1958 she came to the United States with a friend to work and learn English. Cousins who were also studying at Albright College in Reading, PA helped the two friends acclimate into life in America. Until she was able to obtain employment doing piece work in the Reading textile industry she worked at a restaurant . She met and married another textile worker, George Ban, an immigrant from Hungary. During these years in Reading she dedicated her life to Christ through the Plymouth Brethren.
The couple moved back to Switzerland in 1967. While living in Schaffhausen Switzerland they started a family, and Marianne worked as a punch card operator for Knorr Swiss. Returning to the U.S. in 1971 they settled in Queens, NY. She was active in the choir at Bellrose Baptist Church in Jamaica, NY and also worked for a time as the church secretary. Marianne was also an active member of her local parent-teacher organization.
In 1980, the family moved to Bucks County, PA. She continued to enjoy her love of music by joining the church choir, and served for many years on the missions committee. In the late 1980s, Marianne worked briefly for Stern's Department Store in the cash office, while also doing the bookkeeping for her husband's business. Starting in the mid-1990s, she worked for a conglomerate of funeral homes and cemeteries that had many names over the years due to mergers and spinoffs. She worked in the back office at corporate headquarters for over 20 years, and retired from Stonemor at the age of 80.
Marianne is preceded in death by her parents Maria and Max Wagner and her sister Margrit Langenbach. Marianne is survived by her siblings Susanne Straub, Ruth Langenbach, and Daniel Wagner; her children Andrew Ban, Rachel Ban Tonkin (Joe), and Peter Ban (Adrianne); and five grandchildren who she adored - Sebastian, Dominick, and Anneliese Ban, and James and Patrick Tonkin.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 2 pm at Grace Point, 592 Washington Crossing Road, Newtown, Pennsylvania 18940.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the Nanny Monique Organization.
