Obituary of Marjorie Wolf
Marjorie Harris Wolf, of Fort Washington, Pennsylvania passed away at Fort Washington Estates on February 25, 2009, her 93rd birthday.
Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Helen Cathcart Harris and Richard Harris of Gwynedd Valley. She graduated from Friends Central School, Class of 1934, and Temple University's Tyler School of Fine Arts. She studied at the Barnes Foundation in Merion, the Moore College of Art in Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. She further studied painting privately in New Hope, Pennsylvania and Chester Springs, Pennsylvania.
As an artist and writer Mrs. Wolf was both an exhibitor and teacher. She held memberships with The Woodmere Art Gallery, The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, The Norristown Art League, and The National League of American Pen Women.
Her professional career as a public relations director and consultant spanned many years. She held positions at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia and the Girl Scouts of Philadelphia. She further was Public Information Officer for both the Pennhurst State School and Hospital in Spring City, Pennsylvania and the Board of Commissioners of Montgomery County.
With strong allegiance to her British ancestry she was an active member of the Daughters of the British Empire, Kent Chapter. Additionally, Mrs. Wolf was a long time active member of the Dames of the Loyal Legion of the United States, a 143-year-old organization that strives to preserve the memory of those who fought and died in the Civil War. She served on the board in a variety of positions.
Mrs. Wolf was a devoted advocate for the mentally retarded at the county, state, national and international level. She was the activities coordinator for the Montgomery County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association for Retarded Citizens and a member of both the Parent-Staff Association and Human Rights Committee at Elwyn, in Elwyn, Pennsylvania and a member of the National Society of Handicapped Children and Adults in Great Britain.
She has been listed in the Who's Who of American Women, the World's Who of American Women, and the Dictionary of International Biography.
She is survived by two daughters, Carol Elizabeth Wolf of Harleysville, Pennsylvania and Jeanne Wolf Foerster (Mark) of Fort Washington, Pennsylvania and two grandsons, Carson and Matthew Foerster.
Her husband, Horace G. Wolf and a brother, Richard A. Harris, predeceased her.
