Obituary

Marta J. G. Byron, age 96 of Philadelphia, PA passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on Christmas Eve.

Born in Guatemala to the late Dr. Augusto and Rosa Gonzalez, Marta travelled to the United States in 1949 to train as a nurse at Pennsylvania Hospital. She married her loving husband, the late Dr. Harold J. Byron, in 1955 and together, they raised their eight children.

Marta, affectionately "Mita," was an avid animal lover, over the years having many very lucky pets, especially favoring her devoted dachshunds. She enjoyed horseback riding, gardening, sewing, and spending time with her family.  She was always reading an interesting book, working on a jigsaw puzzle, or up for a good game. She embodied kindness, patience, love, and good humor.

Marta is survived by her loving children, Rosemary, H. Joseph III (Theresa), Ricardo (Jacalyn), Martamarie (the late David Geilfuss), William (the late Mari), Crissy (Albert) Santora, Michael, and Anita (the late Colin) Warmington; cherished grandchildren, Christina, Bill, Cassie (Nick Imperial), Emily, H. Joseph IV, Nicholas Warmington, Marta Geilfuss, and Lily Warmington; and precious great-grandchildren, Nicky, Sloane, Joey, and Harper Imperial; as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is now reunited with her husband, sisters, brothers, and loved ones who have gone before her.

On behalf of Marta, her family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the caring and compassionate team of Holy Redeemer Hospice.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Marta's visitation at 9 AM on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at Saint Genevieve Parish Church, 1225 Bethlehem Pike, Flourtown, PA 19031. Mass will follow at 10 AM with Father Carl Janicki officiating.

Marta will be laid to rest privately in Annunciation Blessed Virgin Mary Church Cemetery in Shenandoah, PA at the convenience of her family.
