Obituary

Melvine "Mel" Pearl (Tobler) King, age 102, was peacefully called home by her lord on December 11, 2021.

She was born in Philadelphia on November 27, 1919, the daughter of Florence (Miller) and Rudolph Tobler, during the Spanish influenza pandemic. She was the beloved wife of the late John P. King, Sr. whom she married in 1945, upon his return from naval duty in the pacific during WWII, and with whom she shared 54 years of marriage.

Melvine was a resident of the Living Branches community since 2007 and formerly of Plymouth Township, PA (1959-2007) and Roxborough, PA (1919-1959). Although an only child, Mel grew up on Pechin Street in Roxborough among numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. She graduated from Roxborough High School in 1937.

A devout Christian, she was a member of the Roxborough Baptist, Plymouth Valley Baptist and Grace Baptist churches. Mel was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, and lost track of time while painting scenery, and still life.

Mel was employed as clerical staff at the former Fidelity Mutual Life Insurance Company of Philadelphia, PA, where she met the love of her life, John. While her children were young, she worked for the Colonial School District as kitchen staff. She completed her working career at the former Provident Indemnity Life insurance company of East Norriton, PA also employed as clerical staff.

A devoted homemaker and mother, Mel raised four children who were the light of her life. Preceded in death by her son John P. King, Jr. (Dianne) formerly of Chalfont, PA, Mel is survived by daughter Linda R. Robbins (Michael, deceased) of Joppa, MD., son Raymond D. King (Joanne) of Trooper, PA, son Stephen M. King (Valerie) of Plymouth Valley, PA, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

The family would like to extend their most sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff at both The Willows (Hatfield, PA) and Dock Terrace (Lansdale, PA) facilities of the Living Branches community.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Melvine's memory to the Living Branches Benevolent Fund, 275 Dock Dr. Lansdale, PA 19446-6232. Arrangements by Kirk & Nice, Plymouth Meeting, PA. Interment, alongside her beloved husband, will be private via a Christian graveside service.
