Obituary

Miho Chung (née Hwang), a beloved resident of Blue Bell, PA (Montgomery County) and devout follower of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2024, in Philadelphia at the age of 73. Born on May 17, 1951, in Daegu, South Korea, to Rev. Kyu Suk Hwang and Soon Do Hwang (née Yang), Miho lived a life rich in faith, art, culture, and community service.

Miho was a cherished sister to Kuiho Woo, Bongho Park, Sungho Lee, Inho Park, Shinho Chung, and Pastor Sam Y. Hwang. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Daniel Wooki Chung (1949-1997), whom she married on August 10, 1973.

A devoted mother and grandmother, Miho is survived by her son Paul Chung and daughter-in-law Sylvia Chung (née Yi), daughter Grace Chung and son-in-law Joseph Song, and son Thomas Chung. She leaves behind four adoring grandchildren: Joshua Chung, Emery Chung, London Chung, and Jacob Song.

Miho became an accomplished and acclaimed Korean-American artist, dedicating her life to preserving and evolving the 2,000-year-old tradition of Hanji art. As a third-generation Hanji artist, she masterfully represented nature through modern interpretations of this ancient craft. Her artistic contributions earned her numerous awards and recognition locally, nationally and internationally, cementing her place as a pillar of Korean American art and culture. Her exhibitions spanned the globe to notable venues such as the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, the United Nations and art galleries, including Hyundai Art Gallery, Madrid Civic Museum, UNESCO Miro Hall, and the Louvre.

Miho's passion for her heritage extended beyond her art. She served multiple terms as the President of the Korean American Association of Greater Philadelphia (KAAGP), tirelessly working to strengthen community bonds and promote cultural understanding.

Miho was a founding member of Christ Life Church in Plymouth Meeting, where she also served. Throughout her life, Miho's unwavering faith in Jesus Christ guided her actions and inspired those around her. Her legacy as a woman of faith, artist, community leader, and loving family member will continue to touch the lives of all who knew her. Her warmth, sense of humor, and smile will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
