Obituary of Myrl Steiner
MYRL C. STEINER, age 86, on August 31, 2009, of Meadowood Retirement Community in Lansdale where she was a very active and well cared for resident for almost 15 years.
Mrs. Steiner was born in Branchdale, Schuylkill County, PA on Aug.30, 1923, a daughter of the late Allen and Esther (Williams) Clauser. She was the fifth of eight children and was the last survivor.
She survived both of her husbands, Navy Lt., J.G.Albert M. Slingluff who was killed in Nov. 1943, and Leonard C. Steiner, who died in May 1992, ending a marriage of 45 years. Prior to her move to Meadowood, she was a 50 year resident of Whitpain Twp. Surviving are three children, Albert M. Slingluff and his wife Frances (Russell) of Geigertown, PA, Leonard C. Steiner, Jr. and his wife Deborah (Yocum) of Souderton, PA and Clair Steiner Crans and her husband Gary of Worcester, PA. There are eight grandchildren; Albert Slingluff and his wife Monica (Wert), Amanda SLingluff Karwic and her husband Michael, Brian Slingluff and his wife Lizza (Rodriguez), Rachel Steiner Bowman and her husband Steven, Douglas Steiner, Matthew Crans and his wife Kristen (Martin), Laura Crans Huerta and her husband Rodrigo, and Melissa Crans. There are twelve great grandchildren: Maxwell, Tabitha, and Miranda Slingluff; Nathan, Samuel and Leah Karwic; Alexandra, Megan and Tyler Slingluff; Amelie and Sophie Huerta; and Lilly Bowman.
Mrs. Steiner was a 1941 graduate of Lansdowne High School. She graduated from Temple University in 1970 with a degree in education. She eventually earned a Masters plus 30 at Temple. She was a math teacher in the Philadelphia School System, earning numerous community awards for the quality of her teaching.
She was a lifelong duplicate bridge player. She played on the Whitemarsh Country Club team, the Meadowood Bridge team, and was a founding member of a ladies Wednesday league that lasted for well over 50 years.
