Odessa Williams was born on July 7 th 1933 to the late Harvey and Odessa Jones in Norfolk, Va. She was the second oldest of three sisters but was affectionately known as Baby Sister to her entire family. Odessa grew up on 707 Chapel St. where she always took her sons to visit their grandparents.
Odessa attended and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. She met and married Jerome DeMelo who predeceased her and from that union Jerome Jr and Tyrone was born. They moved to Philadelphia where Odessa began working for Dr. Friedman an optometrist as a receptionist. After the passing of Jerome, later in life Odessa met and married Richard White who predeceased her. and out of that union Robin was born, Odessa later met Samuel Williams who also predeceased her in life
She then joined the Stanley Blacker clothing manufacturer. Odessa finally found her niche in life at The Association for Independent Growth (T.A.I.G.) where she became a supervisor of people who cared for handicapped people. Odessa moved one of her clients Patty Carrigan into her home and cared for her close to 25 years until she became ill and could no longer care for her.
In July of 2019 Odessa suffered two minor strokes and was hospitalized at Einstein for 2 weeks. She was then transferred to York Nursing home where she was in the process of making a good recovery. Odessa then became a victim of the coronavirus and was hospitalized again on April 13 th . She was returned to the nursing home on April 17 th under the assumption she was doing ok. Odessa departed this life on April 18 th 2020.
Odessa had three sister's Thelma. Tony. and Arnetta. two sons Jerome and Robin and a grandson Eric who predeceased her in life. She is survived by her son Tyrone, grandson Nathaniel, granddaughters Janay, Lauryn and Ciara and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews. cousins and other family.
