Oliver Stewart Epps, Sr. was born in Richmond, Virginia May 3, 1934. He was the son to George Epps and Mary Epps (nee Gibson). Oliver was the brother to Mr. William Gibson (Pauline); Mrs. Merdie Johnson (Spencer); Mr. Robert L. Epps; Mr. James Epps (Delores); Mrs. Marian Giles (William); Mr. Bruce Epps and Mrs. Ruby Johnson (Peyton).

Oliver graduated from the Richmond public school system and attended Virginia Union University.  In 1954, he entered the United States Army, and was stationed in France during his last three years of deployment. It is there that he met his wife, Ginette and subsequently had two children; Dolores Harris (Bruce) and Oliver, Jr.

Upon the end of his military duty, he moved his family to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Oliver worked many years for the Social Security Administration and the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. He retired from the shipyard as a Federal Police Officer within the Accident Investigation Unit.

During his retirement, he enjoyed watching CNBC to follow the stock market. Also, Oliver religiously watched reruns of All in the Family, which was his favorite show and Sanford and Son.

Oliver Epps, Sr. was blessed to be a grandfather to two grandchildren, Mr. David Harris and Ms. Gineen Harris; and also had the pleasure to enjoy two wonderful great-grandchildren, Ms. Soleil Harris and Ms. Saigan Harris.

Mr. Epps passed away at his home, peacefully, surrounded by his son and daughter at his home on August 11, 2024 in the Mount Airy community of Philadelphia.

His family will miss him dearly as he was loved by many family and friends during his lifetime.
