Top Architect Leaves His Imprint on Chestnut Hill.
Peter M. Saylor, FAIA, passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on June 1, 2023, due to complications from Alzheimer's disease at Foulkeways.
Peter M. Saylor, created an enduring reputation as an award-winning United States architect who designed academic and cultural buildings for more than 40 years. He was renowned for marrying his historic references with his congenial and approachable style.
He graduated from University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Architecture in 1963 and Master of Architecture in 1965. He joined the Peace Corp in 1966 and was stationed in Gabon, West Africa.
Mr. Saylor started his career in Philadelphia with Mitchell-Giurgola, was a Partner at Dagit•Saylor Architects, SaylorGregg Architects and then a Principal at Jacobs Wyper Architects. Peter was a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and a past President of the Philadelphia AIA Chapter.
He was a member of several Chestnut Hill organizations including the Chestnut Hill Conservancy, The Philadelphia Cricket Club and Chestnut Hill Community Association. Some of Mr. Saylor's projects include the major expansion of the Chestnut Hill College campus and numerous contributions to Woodmere Art Museum.
He is survived by his wife, Caroline Saylor, his son Tom and wife, Annie Lennon-Saylor; his daughter Libby and husband, Paul Runyon Sr.; grandchildren Liam Harrison Cashman, Quinten Peter Saylor and Nelson Gifford Saylor, step grandson Paul Runyon, Jr. and siblings, Sally Reynolds Ted and Michael.
Funeral services will be Friday, June 16th 11:00 AM at The Church of the Holy Trinity on Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia.
