Obituary

Randolph Eugene McCloud Jr was born May 5, 1927 to Randolph McCloud Sr and Mamie McCloud.

Randy was educated in the Philadelphia School District attending Smith Elementary School, Barrett Middle School and South Philadelphia High School for Boys, where he graduated in June 1946.

He joined the United States Army right out of high school and was stationed in Sendei Japan. He served 4 years in the Army with an honorable discharge. A year later he joined the United States Navy and served 3 years. Upon his honorable discharge he became a full time student at Temple University, earning a degree in Education.

His first teaching assignment was Sayre Jr High School, and a year later he became the first African American History and Spanish teacher at Overbrook High School. He taught for 30 years and also taught at South Phila High School and Saul Agricultural School until he retired.

Randy also was the first African American tour guide at Independence Hall in Philadelphia.

Randy married Emmalee Primis in 1960 and from their union, they had two daughters Sharon and Rhonda.

Throughout his career, Randy loved to travel - whether it be family trips to historical places or yearly Summer vacations in Wildwood NJ. He was a dedicated family man and enjoyed being surrounded by family during holidays.

Music was a big part of his life; from his early years stationed in Trinidad while in the Navy, he developed a deep appreciation for the Carribean culture. He also played the piano and collected many genres of music.

An adventurer at heart, Randy loved travelling with his wife up until her untimely death in 1994. Although a widower, Randy continued to travel the world- going back to Japan, England, Scotland, Spain, and South America. An avid train enthusiast, he rode rail lines domestically and around the world.

He traveled several times to Canada and Mexico - where he especially loved celebrating Cinco de Mayo (his birthday).

Randy was a loving husband, brother, uncle, father, grandfather and great grandfather. His love for life will always be remembered. Despite being diagnosed with Cancer twice, he continued to carry on and not let anything get him down.

He leaves behind his daughters Sharon McCloud and Rhonda Jones; sisters Nancy Henderson, Regina Burley, and Marion McCloud; grandchildren Sean McCloud, Melissa Lindsay, Emmalee Jones and Cori Jones; and Great Grandchildren Braxton Lindsay and Cameron McCloud.

Randy also leaves behind a host of relatives and friends.
