Obituary of Richard Malone

Richard E. Malone, Sr. of Philadelphia, PA died peacefully on Saturday, August 10th at his home. He was 77. The son of the late David Joseph and Eva Parker Malone, Richard was born in Philadelphia and grew up in the Castor Gardens section of the city. He graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1954, and earned a Bachelor of Science in insurance and finance from Temple University in 1957. In addition Richard completed two years towards a Masters in Business Administration. He worked for the city of Philadelphia for many years in a variety of capacities in the Department of Public Health, City Planning Commission, Redevelopment Authority and Parking Authority. From there, he moved on to a career in commercial real estate with Hertzfeld & Associates and University City Science Center. Post retirement, he began a career as a manager with Extra Space Storage. He was a Ham operator for many years and had a passion for photography and reading mystery novels.On most weekends, you could find Richard (with his wife) in a theater-- either in the Philly area or New York-- watching the latest film, play, or show. Richard was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He entertained family and friends with his quick wit.

Survived by his wife of 49 years, Dolores (nee McKinney), his son Richard E. Malone, Jr. (Stephanie), grandchildren Derek, Tessa, and Conner. Also survived by his siblings David (Joan) Malone, Jeannette (Frank) McCorkle, Doris Sawyer, the late Edith Bergner, Harry Filmore , and Eva Weiser, sisters-in-law Bernice Gaines, Ruth Alsop, and Elaine Waldschmidt, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.



Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Friday, August 16th from 10 am at the Kirk & Nice Funeral Home, 80 Stenton Ave. Plymouth Meeting, PA where services will be held at 11 am. Interment to follow at Ivy Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society.
