Obituary

Mr. Robert "Bob" Marcus Lam, 91, passed away peacefully Thursday, Sep. 15 at home with his beloved wife Polly by his side.

Born in Philadelphia, on Sep. 8, 1925, Mr. Lam was a lifelong resident of the Philadelphia area. He attended Temple University and Texas State University. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II before returning home and co-founding the successful Lam and Buchsbaum Real Estate Company in Jenkintown in 1949. The company prospered under his leadership for 45 years.

A dedicated public servant, Mr. Lam devoted much of his time to serving his community. He was recognized as the longest tenured member of the Pennsylvania Securities Commission (PSC), he served two terms, first from 1965 -1971 and then again from 1980- 2012. During his last appointment as chairman of the PSC by both Republican and Democratic Pennsylvania Governors, they acknowledged his competence, fairness and ability to work both sides of the political aisle.

In addition to his time at the PSC, he also held numerous positions within the North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA), receiving the association''s most prestigious award, the Blue Sky Cube which recognized his untiring service to the public.

Mr. Lam''s selfless passion for community service didn''t stop with his involvement in the PSC and NASAA. He also served as secretary of the board of trustees for St. Joseph''s University. He was a Cheltenham Township Commissioner, serving as vice chair of its planning commission and government study commission and as President of the Library System.

His community involvement continued as a trustee of Congregation Keneseth Israel and as President of Philmont Country Club. He was a member of Whitemarsh Valley Country Club and the Boca Raton Resort & Club. He also served on the Board of Directors for Home Unity Saving and Loan.
Mr. Lam loved life to the fullest, always surrounding himself with a large group of enduring friends from his youth. He was a dedicated family man, doting on his much-loved wife Cora (Polly) Lam, to whom he was married for 29 years.

In addition to his wife Polly, Mr. Lam is survived by his four children, Janie Lam Meyers (Gene), Stephen R. Lam (Danielle), Bradford J. Lam, Richard M. Lam (Melissa); six step-children, Timothy Bracken, Dr. Anthony Bracken (Theresa), Toby Bracken (Andrea), Malia Bracken-Downy (Tom), KristyAnn Wolfington (Drew), and Torrey Bracken (Jennifer); 22 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ann Lam and his stepson, Thomas J. Bracken, Jr.

A visitation will be held on Tue. Sep. 20 from 1-4pm followed by a service at 4pm, both at the Heritage Chapel at George Washington Memorial Park, 80 Stenton Ave., Plymouth Meeting, PA. Arrangements by Kirk & Nice Inc.
