Obituary of Robert Farrington

Farrington, Robert A., 89, of Fort Washington, on May 30, 2013. Beloved husband of Nancy R. (nee Haggerty); father of Robert, James and Joanne; father-in-law of Denise Farrington and John McCullough; grandfather of Kristin DiPetro, and Julie, Kevin, and Amy McCullough; brother of Edwin Farrington (dec).

Mr. Farrington graduated from Olney High School in 1941. He was active in the Boy Scouts, serving ten years as assistant scout master, and was awarded the Boy Scout scholarship to Temple University in 1941. Following graduation he was employed as a draftsman of stainless steel structures used on destroyers and cruisers of the U.S. Navy. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Farrington enlisted in the Army Air Corps and was accepted for pilot training. The war ended before completion.

After his discharge he attended the University of Pennsylvania and graduated with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. Following the formation of Stainless Inc. in 1947, a company that designed and installed custom television and radio towers in the U.S. and worldwide, Mr. Farrington was the first employee hired. He served in various functions of operations within Stainless and in 1983 was elected director and president, positions he retained until his retirement in 1997.
