Obituary of Samuel Betham

Samuel W. Betham, age 79, passed away on September 10, 2011 at the Philadelphia Veteran's Administration Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Born in Norristown, PA on April 30, 1932, he was the son of the late Samuel J. Betham & Mary (nee Rhodes). Sam was married to his beloved wife, Shirley(nee White) for 56 years. He was the loving father of Keith Betham (Catherine), Karen Swartz (Kenneth) and Brenda Hojnacki (Edward).He was the devoted "Pop - Pop" of Jeffrey, Michael, and David Dutill, and Corey Betham, Grandpop of Nicholas, Emma, Kaylin, Charlie and Liam Dutill. He is also survived by his brother, James Betham; his sisters, Mary Jones, Viola Hentz, and Alice Kijak (Tom). Sam was preceded in death by his son, Brian Betham; his granddaughter, Kelly Betham and his brother Leon Betham. Sam served in the U.S. Army, during the Korean Conflict and received A Purple Heart. He was a true "die - hard", and lifelong Phillies fan. He was a machine operator for 40 years with Simpson Paper Company in Miquon, PA. He also loved travelling and country music.
