Samuel Hoover Ross was born in Greenwood, South Carolina on July 25, 1935.  God called him home on Monday, August 19, 2019, in Montgomery County, Pa.  Born to the late Ellen Wise Ross and Wille Jake Ross. Samuel was the eighth child of this union and was baptized at Pinegrove AME Church in Greenwood, South Carolina.

Samuel was educated and graduated from the Philadelphia Public School system. Samuel was a very lovable and caring person. He treated everyone with respect and will be sadly missed by all.

Many years Sam worked with his brother Willie Ross at his auto body and mechanic shop on Sydenham Street in Philadelphia, Pa. Later Sam worked for lawyers Dennis Cogan and Anthony Petrone at their law firm in Center City. Many years later, Sam retired from SEPTA. During retirement, Sam enjoyed collecting items. He would collect hats, watches, and chess sets. He had several unique pieces.

Samuel was preceded in death by his mother, Ellen Wise Ross; father, Wille Jake Ross; sister, Gertrude Moore; brother, Willie Ross; sisters Eula Mae Wideman, Mary Ellen Scott and Thelma Bonaparte.

He leaves to cherish his memory, sister, Lithan Willis, and brother-in-law, Cecil Willis; brother, Carlisle Ross; sisters-in-law, Lula Scott and Shirley Ross; and a host of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
