IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sandra R.
Derr
November 23, 1937 – March 2, 2026
Sandra R. Derr, 88, of Warrington, PA (long-time resident of Willow Grove, PA) passed away on Monday, March 2, 2026.
Sandra R. Derr was born in Philadelphia, PA to Carl and Elizabeth (nee: Weir) Ruppenthal on November 23,1937. She attended high school at Philadelphia Girls High and Springfield High School, and earned a teaching degree in Home Economics from Juniata College in 1957. Upon graduating, she worked as a high school home economics teacher through her marriage to William Michael Derr (1962) until the birth of son William Scott (1964). While a full-time mother, Sanda worked as a part-time accountant for her husband's dental laboratory in Chestnut Hill. Sandra returned to teaching in the 1980's as a pre-school teacher at The Schoolhouse in Flourtown. Over 25+ years, she greatly enjoyed exploring local Indian stories, nature, astronomy, and dinosaurs with her class. She prided herself on developing interactive learning units that encouraged creativity and imagination.
Sandra and a close friend began running regular "garage sales" in the 1970's, at first as a way to shed family-accumulated items. These activities grew into a small business of managing house and estate sales for people downsizing or moving into assisted living facilities. She developed a keen interest in collecting antique items, especially furniture, and stocked her home with her finds. These sales provided a ready mechanism for sourcing unique items.
Sandra enjoyed many trips to Maine (Boothbay Harbor) and New Hampshire (Lake Winnepesaukee) with her parents, husband and family. She was a frequent "outdoor putterer", enjoying the garden, raking leaves, and other outside activities around her home, and was an active member of the Sunny Willow Swim Club, managing swim team competitions and discretely cheering on her talented daughter Karen (breaststroke). She raised and adored many cats throughout her life.
Sandra R. Derr is survived by her children William Scott Derr (Visalia, CA) and Karen Elizabeth Myers (Sellersville, PA); grandchildren Alexander, Tyler, and Emily Myers; nieces Linda Corey, Wendy Clinton and Melissa Ruppenthal Kozik; and nephews David Lawson, John Ruppenthal, Jeffrey Ruppenthal, Kevin Ruppenthal and James Ruppenthal. She is preceded in death by her parents Carl and Elizabeth Ruppenthal, her husband William Michael, her brothers Carl Robert Ruppenthal and John Bruce Ruppenthal, and nephew Steven Ruppenthal.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at Kirk and Nice Funeral Home from 10 AM to 11 AM on Wednesday, March 11, 2026. Memorial service to follow the visitation.
Sandra will be laid to rest at George Washington Memorial Park.
Memorial donations may be made to the Dementia Society of America, PO Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901.
