IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Steven W.
Christian, Sr.
February 13, 1955 – January 23, 2025
Steven Wayne Christian Sr., was born on February 13, 1955, in Philadelphia, PA to Norma Christian. He was the third of four children. Steven attended Public schools in Philadelphia. After graduating from West Philadelphia High School, he attended Lincoln University where he pledged Groove Phi Groove Social fellowship, Inc. While there, he met and later married Lillian Christian. In 1980 they welcomed their only child, a son, Steven Wayne Christian, Jr.
As a teenager Steve loved sports, acting, and spending time with his family and friends. Steve worked as a general electrician working on a lighting and traffic projects still in use today in the Philadelphia suburbs. After finalizing his degree in psychology in 1994, he began his employment with The City of Philadelphia, where he worked for over 20 years as a Juvenile probation officer. During his time with the city, he was an early participant in the Police Probation Partnership (PPP)/Youth Violence Reduction Program (YVRP), more recently known as the Juvenile Enforcement Team (JET). He Eventually went on to retire from the city in 2016.
Steve, with his social and outgoing personality, had a love for brotherhood and giving back to the community. He was most enthusiastic about both his associations with his Fraternity, Groove Phi Groove and his participation in the Masons Philadelphia Bethel Lodge #47 and Red House. He was a die-hard Philly sports fan and loved cheering for his Eagles and 76ers. He also enjoyed relaxing while watching cooking shows and old black and white westerns, and spending time with friends and family.
One of Steve's greatest sources of joy was spending time with his family. He deeply cherished his family and the time he spent with them. Steve had a loving relationship with his son, Wayne, daughter-in-law, Kia, and granddaughters, Jaylin and Sydney. Speaking with his Sister Arlene and his Brother Charles often, these relationships meant so much to him.
In the early morning hours of January 23, 2025, our Lord declared there was no need for Steve to suffer any longer and brought his home to become an ancestor.
Steve was predeceased by his ex-wife Lillian, mother, Norma Christian, and brother, Tyrone Christian. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted son, Steven Wayne Christian, Jr., daughter-in-law, Kia Christian, granddaughters, Sydney Christian and Jaylin Clark, sister, Arlene Beresniewicz and her husband John, brother, Charles Dougherty, many nieces and nephews, extended family members, as well as his Masonic and Fraternity brothers, colleagues and friends.
