Obituary

Susan Garifallou, age 80 of Plymouth Meeting, PA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 in Providence Place of Collegeville.

Susan was born in NYC, NY to the late Charles and Miriam Huemmer on August 26, 1946. She grew up in Valley Stream, NY with her younger sister, Julia. From an early age, she had a passion for patient care and knew she wanted to become a nurse. She studied nursing at Columbia University and pursued further education by obtaining Master’s degrees in Public Health, School Nursing and eventually becoming a nurse practitioner after studying at Gwynedd Mercy University. She ended her career in school nursing, working in school districts across the Philadelphia area.

Sue loved cats and had at least one cat for most of her adult life. Trixie, Cinnamon, Chips, Mario, Wayne, and Wanda all knew that within the household she was their person. She enjoyed reading and watching the news, particularly the weather. She enjoyed medical dramas like ER and Grey’s anatomy. She met her late husband, Angelo, in the mid 1980s and they married in 1987. They enjoyed 39 years of marriage before his passing in early 2026. She is survived by her two children, James and Joy, of Philadelphia and Baltimore respectively.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather at Kirk and Nice Funeral Home from 12 to 1 PM to share fond memories. A memorial service will follow at 1 PM, where Pastor Sandra Brown will officiate.

Susan will be laid to rest privately with her family.

Memorial donations may be made to your local SPCA, as both Susan and her late husband adopted many cats and dogs through their shelters.
