Obituary of Thomas Lanard
Thomas S. Lanard, age 91, died September 14, 2012 in Bethlehem, PA. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ann (nee Maggio) Born in Phila, PA, to William and Mabel Lanard, he was a resident of PA until 1998, a resident of FL until 2005, and then in Bethlehem, PA Mr. Lanard graduated from the Univ. of PA with Masters degrees in English and History. He worked as a trolley car driver for PTC, until he became an accountant for Gulf Oil Corp. in Bala Cynwyd. A musician all his life, Tom played the trumpet in many bands (the last being the "Verdi Band") for concerts and parades, many of which were in the hot sun of July 4. His interests extended to history, literature, writing poetry, photography, lapidary, riflery, and composing of music. Mr. Lanard served as Chief Warrant Officer in the Civil Air Patrol, and as a Lieutenant in the State Fencibles Infantry. Also surviving are his daughters: Ruth M. Hayes (William), of FL and Carol J. Lewellyn (Morris) of CT; grandchildren: William J. Hayes III of PA, Daniel R. Hayes and John P. Hayes both of FL, Jennifer M. Lewellyn of OH, Matthew M. Lewellyn and his wife, (Rachel) of KY, one great-grandson, James D. Hayes of FL, and Ann's 3 daughters Genevieve Hartnett and Ann-Marie Evans, both of PA and Anita Miller (Jerry) of DE.. Thomas' first wife, Ella H. Lanard, and his brother, Albert Lanard, predeceased him. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Heritage Chapel at George Washington Memorial Park, 80 Stenton Ave., Plymouth Meeting.
